Types of Airport Jobs

When you are looking for a job, some industries are very competitive. But one industry that is always on the need for reliable hard workers is the airport. Now, not all airport jobs are hired out through the airport main office. You might need to go through the TSA or one of the airlines, depending on exactly what type of job it is you are seeking. Following are some of the jobs that might be of interest to you if the fast pace and exciting atmosphere of the airport sounds like a good place for you to work at.

Security
Since 9/11, the TSA has been created and put in charge of all security for transportation. The TSA handles the screening of all the passengers and baggage that is getting loaded on to the airplanes leaving the airport. Officials are trained in how to treat people, what to look for and how to handle an emergency situation if it were to ever come up. Security officials have a very important job and those in charge of hiring look for people who take homeland security seriously. There are also security officials needed to monitor the parking lots, check the baggage being loaded on to the airplanes and to watch the cameras mounted in various areas of the airport.

Airlines
Airport jobs could also mean working for the airlines. From being a check in agent at the main desk to a baggage carrier, lots of jobs are available. Baggage handlers work behind the scenes, loading bags correctly on the airplanes after it has made it through security. They also direct the planes when they leave and enter a terminal and get them in to the gates properly. Check in agents also take tickets and get people on the airplane at the gate. They handle any changes in bookings and get people on different flights if they miss one.

The Actual Airport
When you work for the actual airport itself, they have different jobs available. The airport jobs hired out through an airport could be the maintenance staff. That could mean being on call to fix something in the bathroom or snack areas. Janitorial staff are needed to keep the bathrooms clean and the floors picked up. There are also people needed to maintain all of the employees within the airport. Airport jobs are varied so there should be something to fit your interests and education level.
